“It’s good as an artist to always remember to see things in a new, weird way.”

-Tim Burton

Who I Am

Hi, I’m Hannah Nelson! I studied at Kennesaw State University and graduated in December 2022 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Communications.  I currently work as a Graphic Designer at isolved and I do freelance graphic design on the side, specializing in branding, advertising, and packaging design.  When creating with digital media, experimentation and the outcomes that come from it are limitless.  Finding new ways to convey meaning in my work through various design, bold color schemes, and image manipulation are exciting to me.  I am a problem solver at heart, wanting to make sure I can bring my clients’ visions to life.  Aside from my work, I like to practice embroidery, go to the gym, and find fun new spots in the city with my friends.

My Brand

Hannah is Designing is the brand that I created for myself so that I could bring a focused identity to all the endeavors I set out to do. As a graphic designer, one of the best feelings is when an overarching, multi-part project looks and feels seamless from one piece to another. I want the viewer of my work to not only feel this way as well but to also see who I am in everything I do. It wouldn’t make sense for me to make a colorful, funky logo and slap it on a plain white “clean-aesthetic” site. That’s not me, especially since I can’t keep my desk clean for the life of me. Staying true to myself no matter what I create or do has always been and always will be something I strive for.

My Inspiration

My inspiration for my portfolio style comes from one of the best but often forgotten design tools: the sketchbook. While many opt for a more digitalized design process from the very beginning, there’s just something about putting lead to paper that can’t be replicated, even on the most up-to-date drawing tablet. Maybe it’s the glare from the screen, or maybe it’s the ability to hit CTRL + Z whenever you want. Whatever it is, it eliminates that natural and almost archaic movement from idea to hand to life. I want the viewer of my portfolio to feel transported into my personal sketchbook, seeing not just the final piece but how I arrived at that outcome.
